Dining With History Talk

Talk takes place at Pippbrook House, Reigate Road, Dorking, RH4 1SH

Join Jessica Thurtell to uncover the history of our dining habits through the ages.

The way we eat our food has changed dramatically over the centuries since the Danes and Saxons ruled in England. Jessica will be looking at the changes, not only in foodstuffs and diet but also the table manners that went with them and the words and phrases that have come down to us as a result.

This is not all about wealth and feasting with the rich. We sit down to peasant meals of pottage, working class dinners and middle class genteel dinner parties. So be ready to deal with daggers and fingers as well as soup spoons, fruit knives and oyster forks!
